Berchtesgaden (RWH) The reconstruction of the Olympic track in Sarajevo enjoys the full support of the International Luge Federation. FIL president Josef Fendt announced in Berchtesgaden that the federation has granted a considerable sum of money for the acquisition of wheeled sledges for summer training and to aid the search for young talent. In addition, Markus Aschauer of the FIL track construction committee will provide on-site support.

Work on the artificial ice track, which showcased the luge and bobsleigh events at the 1984 Olympic Winter Games, began at the end of June. The project was initiated by the Bosnia and Herzegovina luge association in order to make the facilities available for summer luge activities.

The Olympic track in Sarajevo was damaged during the civil war at the beginning of the 1990s. The luge gold medallists on the track on Mount Trebevic 30 years ago were Steffi Martin (GDR), Paul Hildgartner (ITA) and Hans Stanggassinger/Franz Wembacher (FRG).
