FIL tip: “The Track” – Moving luge documentary about Olympic dreams in Sarajevo
Berchtesgaden (FIL/25 Feb 2026) The documentary “The Track” focuses on an extraordinary story from the world of international luge. Director Ryan Sidhoo's film follows young athletes Mirza Nikolajev, Hamza Pleho, and Zlatan Jakić on their journey to the Winter Olympics – training on the historic 1984 Olympic track in Sarajevo.
Despite limited resources and difficult training conditions, the young lugers pursue their Olympic dream with great determination. The focus is not only on the sport, but also on the special significance of the track as a symbol of the past, present, and future of luge in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Athlete Mirza Nikolajev describes his motivation in the film as follows: “When I'm at the top of the start, I forget everything around me. Then there's just me, the sled, and the track. My dream is to compete in the Olympic Games one day.”
Coach Senad Omanović, who has been with the team for years, adds: “We may not have the best conditions, but we have heart. These young athletes show every day what is possible with passion and hard work.”
FIL President Einars Fogelis explains: “‘The Track’ is an inspiring story about the power of sport and the Olympic dream. The film impressively shows how luge connects people and generations – regardless of external circumstances.”
The multi-award-winning documentary, produced in association with Wild State, has built a devoted global following and raised over $35,000 USD to directly support the film’s participants. It is currently available on Amazon Prime Video in select territories - including Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, the UK, Canada, and the United States - and on HBO Max in the Balkan region. The film is also available to rent worldwide via Kinema.
