FIL Track Construction Expert Markus Aschauer in Ireland

Group picture meeting ice start track in Dublin, Ireland

Dublin (FIL) The head of the FIL Track Construction Commission Markus Aschauer took part in a meeting initiated by the National Olympic Committee of Ireland (OFI) on the topic of a new ice sports facility in Dublin (IRL) on September 7 and 8, 2022. A start track for luge training is to be integrated into the new ice stadium for various winter sports.

In addition to the representatives of the national and international winter sports associations, officials from organised sports in Ireland and the regional authorities were also present. The Irish Minister of State for Sport, Jack Chambers TD, also attended the meeting on 7 September.

"The meeting was extremely interesting, perfectly planned and organised. There is a private investor for the ice sports project in Ireland. The realisation is supposed to start at the end of 2023. In my opinion, this project would be a real booster for ice sports in Ireland. In addition to the greatly improved training facilities for ice hockey, figure skating and curling, there would then be the possibility for the first time for luge, bobsleigh and skeleton to train on ice within Ireland. A school programme such as exists in other countries could also be started and established with this runway. Should this ice sports arena be realised, it would be a huge chance to bring the sport of luge in Ireland significantly forward", said Markus Aschauer after the meeting in Dublin.
