Kindberg (ck) - If the pursuers in the world cup want to keep their chances in tact they will have to score this coming weekend at the 4th station of the world cup in Kindberg in Austria. The hunted will come to Kindberg with strengthened confidence as all three world cup leaders are new world champions now after last week’s championships. Ekatharina Lavrentjeva (RUS) claimed back the world title which Renate Gietl (ITA) had held since 2009, Patrick Pigneter (ITA) won gold in the singles, doubles and with the team. They are in the lead in the world cup, but not out of reach. Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) is currently in the position behind Ekatharina Lavrentjeva, but if she wants to have a chance in the overall world cup, she will have to break the Russian’s winning streak. More likely is a scenario of three Italians, Greta Pinggera, Melanie Schwarz and Lanthaler fighting for the ranks behind Lavrentjeva. In the current season each of them has been runner up once. In the men’s event so far only Thomas Kammerlander (AUT) managed what has been the declared season goal of Thomas Schopf (AUT): to beat Patrick Pigneter at least once. Kindberg is one of the few races which Pigneter has not won yet, not two years ago and not in 2006. His co-competitors will do anything that this will not change. However, Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara have won the Kindberg race in the doubles’ event two years ago. In the overall world cup they are in the lead, but only 45 points ahead of their eternal rivals Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev (RUS) and the well performing brothers Christian and Andreas Schopf (AUT). But whoever wants to beat Pignter/Clara in the overall world cup has to be faster than them in Kindberg. The training runs will start Friday, February 1st at 10am, the qualification runs will be held on Friday at 1pm and Saturday at 10am. The world cup competition runs will start Saturday at 12pm.
