Vatra Dornei (ck) - In every race of the season they finished on the podium, but only in the last event of the winter they managed to claim the top spot on the podium: in the race which was started at 8am again and was held in one run only, Christian Schopf/Andreas Schopf (AUT) celebrated their third career world cup win. “During the run, I never would have though that this is possible”, said Christian Schopf. “Each curve felt somehow strange and all we thought was just: keep going, keep going. Only in the finish when we saw the time, we realized that it was actually a good run.” Also Andreas Schopf was happy: “It was a difficult race. The conditions were constantly changing and it was hard to find the right equipment. All winter we were so close to winning, it is just great that now at the end finally all came together.” Only for the second time in their career Aleksandr Egorov/Petr Popov (RUS) could cheer about a second place in the world cup. They found the right adjustments for the track today and left the seeded Russian double Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev behind them: “These were difficult days here, because the weather was constantly chainging. In the first world cup here there were different conditions between the first and the second run and today it was different again. We had to prepare the sled differently for each run and today finally we got it right”, said Egorov. Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara (ITA) were satisfied with their third place as this was all they needed to win the overall world cup for a fifth time. Patrick Pigneter is satisfied with the past season: “I have reached all my goals, the equipments fits well, I am physically fit, I can look forward to the next season, which will start in May with the summer training.” Christoph Regensburger/Dominik Holzknecht (AUT) finished their successful season with a win in the Nation’s Cup ahead of the two Russian doubles Stanislav Kovshik/Ilya Tarasov and Pavel Silin/Iwan Rodin. A happy end of a intermingled season found the four-time overall world cup winner Anton Blasbichler (ITA) in winning the team event together with Evelin Lanthaler and Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara. “This was a nice experience at the end. I think I adjusted quite well to the conditions and I am happy that I could keep up with the best. I wanted to be on the safe side in my run as a crash can easily happen and you have some responsibility for the team here.” Blasbichler’s run on the safe side was good enough to make the second fastest time among the men, just behind Jurii Talikh (RUS), who together with Ekatharina Lavrentjeva and Aleksandr Egorov/Petr Popov finished second. Austria with Tina Unterberger, Michael Scheikl and Christian Schopf/Andreas Schopf became third. Final Result Doubles: 1. Christian SCHOPF/Andreas SCHOPF (AUT), 1:16,47 2.
