Snow and fog could not stop Gerhard Pilz (AUT) to celebrate his triumph in Zelezniki (SLO), the final station in this year´s natural track luge World Cup. In addition, the 36-year-old Upper Austrian won his second title in the overall World Cup. "The conditions today were really awful. Moreover, in the first run I touched the boards in the upper part of the track twice", resumed Gerhard Pilz. Nevertheless, he kept his head, gained today´s best time in the second run and achieved the first place. "I was not worried about the overall World Cup. I just tried to show my best", stated the routinier and added happily: "It is a great success. The victory in overall World Cup was my main goal this year".The first pursuer of Gerhard Pilz was Ferdinand Hirzegger (AUT). The 25-year-old soldier from Styria should have won in Zelezniki to defeat the five-times World Champion. After a poor second run he gained merely the sixth place. "I did not get on well with the bad weather conditions. Gerhard Pilz was finally more constant than me", told Ferdinand Hirzegger who looks forward to the European Championship in Frantschach (AUT) next weekend: "I like the track in Frantschach more than the flat course in Zelezeniki. It may be possible to achieve a medal."The brothers Gerald and Roland Kallan (AUT) placed ex aequo in the first run. After the race they left the track with mixed emotions. Whereas Roland Kallan celebrated his second position after a perfect second run, his brother Gerald ranked on fifth place. "I did not make any big mistakes. Because of the fog I could not reach the ideal line in some curves", stated the 22-year-old Gerald Kallan from Hüttau.
