Umhausen (PMA) Current season of GRM Group Luge World Cup on Natural Track will come to an end this weekend in Austria. Umhausen and its 955 metres long “Grantau” track will host the World Cup Finals. Final competition runs are scheduled on Saturday. Doubles, Ladies and Men’s event will be raced under floodlights. Patrick Pigneter (ITA) has claimed the Overall World Cup at the penultimate race at Vatra Dornei (ROU). The Italian celebrated “La Decima”, his tenth Overall win in a row. Ekaterina Lavrentyeva is aiming to do that at the Ladies World Cup too. She is 70 points ahead of current World Champion Evelin Lanthaler (ITA). Only a crash can prevent Lavrentyevas success. Behind Lanthaler Austrian Tina Unterberger and Italian Greta Pinggera are fighting for third place Overall. At the Doubles event Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara can only be overtaken in Overall by Aleksandr Egorov and Petr Popov. If the Russian double wins at Umhausen, Pigneter and Clara have to finish on seventh place to secure their Overall title. There are two big targets of the Austrian team at Umhausen. Michael Scheikl wants to place second in Overall World Cup. Thomas Kammerlander wants to score his first season win at his home track. His elder brother Gerald won at Umhausen in 2009. Twelve World Cups were held at the “Grantau” track so far. Lavrentyeva is the record winner with eight victories at Umhausen.
