On the Fiat van the logo of the International Luge Federation (FIL), the silhouette of a luger and the word “Service” are shining. The repair shop equipment inside the vehicle is now complete.
Everything is prepared for the mission of Hans Rinn, formerly twice Olympic Champion and triple World Champion in the double-seater, who is now sled specialist and a meticulous worker for puzzling things out.
Since the beginning of this season, he has been present at the race tracks as specialist for technical service on behalf of the FIL, and it is his task to help and support especially the athletes of the smaller federations.
Up to now he was, together with his service vehicle, on the spot at the Viessmann World Cup races in Oberhof and Altenberg.
So far athletes from England, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and from other countries have made use of the technical service; sleds, for example, had to be repaired and runners had to be fastened. Hans Rinn’s first impression and conclusion: His presence is needed, the service offer becomes more and more popular, and the athletes are glad to make use of his assistance and support. Athletes also are happy to profit from the plentiful experience of the ex-champion; thus, for example, the Briton Marc Hatton asked for advice when he had problems with his helmet visor in Altenberg.
While the first two World Cup assignments were rather a test how well the technical service is received and how it can still be improved, the World Cup in Lillehammer, Norway, represents the final rehearsal for the climax of this season: The World Championships in Sigulda, Latvia.

The luge specialist Hans Rinn in also active and busy in a second field on behalf of the FIL: He develops and constructs sleds, supported and co-financed by the World Federation.
This offer is intended to benefit not only the smaller federations, but also the leading luge nations and, of course, to help advance luge sports in general. It is no secret any more that technical equipment plays a very important role in this context.
Numerous orders for sleds have already been received by Hans Rinn, for example from the Czech Republic, France and Russia. The sled constructor from Thuringia is planning to deliver the first eleven sleds already in Lillehammer, and he is anxious to see how successfully they will stand the test in practical operation.
