EBERSPAECHER Mixed Event presented by SKECHERS in Oberhof
Oberhof (FIL/24 Jan 2026) Victory in the mixed race of the EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup presented by Sketchers in Oberhof went to Team Germany 2 with Max Langenhan and Julia Taubitz. With their victory in a track record time of 1:34.206 minutes, the two world champions have written themselves into the history books, as this was the first time the European Championship title in the mixed relay was contested. Taubitz was delighted: “We are incredibly happy to have made history today as the first mixed European champions.” Team Germany 1 with Felix Loch and Merle Fräbel came in second, 0.063 seconds behind. “We are leading the overall World Cup standings, so everything is fine,” said Loch, who had the fastest run.
Team Austria 1 (Jonas Müller/Lisa Schulte) finished third, 0.353 seconds behind the first Latvian team (Kristers Aparjods/Elina Bota; 0.387). “I'm not happy with my run, I made mistakes from start to finish,” said Schulte, "but I'm glad we still made it onto the podium. Austria 2 with Nico Gleirscher and Hannah Prock (0.482) was followed by Italy 1 (Dominik Fischnaller/Verena Hofer; 0.584), Latvia 2 (Gints Berzins/Kendijy Aparjode; 0.658) and USA 2 (Joinathan Gustafson/Summer Britcher; 0.742).
In the doubles competition, the track record set a year ago by the German team of Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt and Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal in 1:36.365 minutes was also smashed. The new record holders come from Austria and are Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl, as well as Selina Egle and Lara Kipp. They improved the record to 1:34.156 minutes. In addition, they were crowned European champions. However, not everything went smoothly. “We made a big mistake in turn 13,” revealed Egle, “so we didn't expect to win anymore.” Kindl's conclusion:
“Despite a few minor mistakes, we did a good job and were the fastest. That's what counts in the end.”
Team Germany 2 with Toni Eggert/Florian Müller and Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal was 0.174 seconds slower. “Our run wasn't so good, we lost a little time. Still, it was nice,” admitted Degenhardt.
Latvia 1 (Martins Bots/Martins Plume, Marta Robezniece/Kitija Bogdanova) finished third on the podium, 0.217 seconds behind. The two young German doubles teams of Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz and Elina-Marie Storch/Pauline Patz finished fourth on their home track, 0.259 seconds behind. Italy, with Ivan Nagler/Fabian Malleier and Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer, followed 0.486 seconds behind. Sixth place went to the US team (Zachary DiGregorio/Sean Hollander; Chevonne Forgen/Sophia Kirkby), who were 0.536 seconds behind the winners.
