Oberhof (pps) While Olympic Champion Tatjana Huefner of Germany celebrated her first success this season, team mate Natalie Geisenberger is ahead of winning the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup title. Thanks to Geisenberger’s second place finish at the seventh stop of the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Oberhof, the overall title seems to be a foregone conclusion for the World and two-time European Champion.

Ahead of the last two events in the Viessmann Luge World Cup series in Altenberg, Germany, next weekend and in Sigulda, Latvia, two weeks from now, Geisenberger is in top position on the overall rankings with 685 points to her credit, with a comfortable leading margin of 194 points to Huefner (491 points) on second place.

Four-time World Champion Huefner claimed the 33rd invididual victory of her career. However, Sylke Otto (Germany/retired in 2007) remains record champion with a total of 37 individual victories to her credit. Former junior World Champion Dajana Eitberger (Germany) achieved her very first podium finish in Oberhof.

Quotes
Tatjana Hüfner (GER / Olympic and four-time World Champion)

“Winning in front of a home crowd is always great. Especially today because my three godchildren were at the track and I’ll have the chance to see their beaming faces. Well, bearing the Games in Sochi in mind there definitely is an upward trend. However, there’s still a lot of work ahead to maintain a stable performance. Additionally, the tracks in Oberhof and Sochi cannot be compared at all.”

Dajana Eitberger (GER / 2011 Junior World Champion, fourth place at the 2013 Europeans)

“Well, it’s a surprise to have claimed a podium finish with the way I performed today. When I crossed the finish line I thought that it will never be good enough for a podium finish. But when I heard the cheers of the spectators I knew that it worked out after all.”
