Herren Podium, Sigulda 2024

First win of the season for Felix Loch /
Overall World Cup to Max Langenhan

Sigulda (FIL/25. Feb. 2024) The 2023/2024 season in the EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup has not gone according to plan for Felix Loch so far. "It's been a bit tough," said the seven-time overall World Cup winner. At the race in Sigulda, the 34-year-old German was finally able to win a race again after Whistler last season. It is his 51st World Cup success. He needed 1:35.640 minutes for the two runs on the 1200 meter long track. Thanks to a good second run, Loch was able to push local hero Kristers Aparjods, who was still leading after the first run, into second place by 0.059 seconds. "I noticed Felix's time from the second run because there was a lot of applause," said Aparjods, "but I remained focused. My goal was to rectify the mistakes from my first run and deliver my best performance. In sports, there are days of victory and days of setback. While I can't classify this as a loss – securing second place is incredible – I had hoped for a more triumphant outcome on home track."

Max Langenhan, Gesamtweltcup 2024

In the battle for victory in the overall World Cup, the decision went in favor of Max Langenhan. The German finished in third place, 0.312 seconds slower than winner Loch. However, because Jonas Müller, his constant Austrian rival this season, made a serious mistake in the second run, he only finished in 24th place, 18.902 seconds behind. Langenhan's joy was muted, as he had injured himself in the first run. "In the end, of course, it's great that I won the overall World Cup."

David Gleirscher narrowly missed out on his twelfth podium finish in fourth place (0.423 seconds back). The Austrian was still in third place at the halfway point, but was overtaken by Langenhan. Wolfgang Kindl (Austria/0.442) in fifth and the Latvian Gints Berzins (0.475) were also able to move up.
