Doppelsitzer Sieger Park City

Park City (RWH)  Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt of Germany have proven they still have what it takes to win. At their third attempt, the Olympic and World Champions took their first victory of the season in the Viessmann World Cup at the 2002 Olympic track in Park City, Utah. By doing so, Wendl/Arlt extended the winning streak for German doubles teams in the Viessmann World Cup to 15 successive victories.

With the 30th individual World Cup victory of their career, the Bavarian duo also finished ahead in the inter-team battle with compatriots Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken. The defending champions had won the two previous Viessmann World Cup events in Innsbruck (AUT) and Lake Placid (USA).

After starting the season with two second places, the Austrian pairing of Peter Penz/Georg Fischler finished third this time around. Latvians Oskars Gudramovics/Peteris Kalnins managed a career-best finish of fourth in the Viessmann World Cup.

Eggert/Benecken lead the overall standings on 285 points, with a clear margin over Penz/Fischler (240) and Wendl/Arlt (212).

Quotes

Tobias Wendl (GER, Olympic Champion in 2014, World Champion in 2013 and 2015)

“We went into the race knowing we had sled that was fast but safe. We knew we could be quick. It was important to bring the sled home safely this time. I feel I’m about 80% recovered from my recent health problems in Lake Placid. When I watched the replay of our second run at Lake Placid on the TV, I could barely remember it...”.

Toni Eggert (GER, overall winner of the Viessmann Luge World Cup 2014/15 and World Championship runner-up in 2012 and 2013)

“The most important thing is that we have defended our World Cup lead. But we’ve also learned that we still have a lot of work to do. Work on the sled, work on our start, work on everything really.”

Peter Penz (AUT, 2015 World Championship runner-up)

“We haven’t really felt comfortable in the sled all week, so we’re mega happy with third place. Especially as the Latvians were only just behind us.”
