Bronze for local heroes Grimette/Martin (USA) at Luge World Championships in Lake Placid
Lake Placid (pps). Italy’s Gerhard Plankensteiner/Oswald Haselrieder won the doubles race at FIL Luge World Championships in Lake Placid (USA). In a total time of one minute 27.401 seconds the Olympic Bronze medallists of 2006 celebrated their first international title. In first run the Bronze medallists of European Championships 2002 and 2008 improved the track record at the “Olympic Sports Complex” in Lake Placid to 43,641 seconds.
The silver medal went to Germany’s title holders Andre Florschuetz/Torsten Wustlich (one minute 27.458 seconds), who two months after Florschuetz underwent spinal disc surgery achieved their aim of winning a medal at the last World Championship event in their career.
Host USA with Mark Grimette/Brian Martin (one minute 27,611 seconds) celebrated the Bronze medal. The Olympic Silver medallists of 2002 banned Italy’s European Champions Christian Oberstolz/Patrick Gruber (one minute 27,881 seconds) to rank four.
