Sigulda (pps). On bad weather conditions, Olympic silver medallists Andre Florschütz/Thorsten Wustlich (GER, 1:26,466) won the last but one race of Viessmann luge World Cup in Sigulda (Latvia). After sunny and windy weather during most of the race, the last two starters of second run had to struggle with sudden snowfall and couldn’t hold the ranks one and two of the first run. Oberstolz/Gruber (ITA, 1:26,593), leading after first heat, finished second, followed by Austria’s Olympic Champions Andreas Linger/Wolfgang Linger (1:26,618). Vice World Champions Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (GER, 1:26 622), second after first run, missed the podium and finished forth. In the overall ranking of Viessmann luge World Cup, Germany’s four-times World Champions Patric Leitner/Alexander Resch, who were sixth in Sigulda, defended their leading position with 605 points, followed by Oberstolz/Gruber (ITA, 535), who reduced their deficit from 105 to 70 points, and World Champions Florschütz/Wustlich (GER, 456). In the last race of the season, Leitner/Resch now need only a thirteenth rank for the defending of the overall World Cup and their sixth overall victory at all. Quotes: Andre Florschütz (GER, World Champions 2001, 2005 and 2008, Olympic silver medallists 2006, three times winners of overall World Cup): “The first run was regular, in the second we had a bit of luck with the conditions, but to win a race, you sometimes need luck. Now we will see what we can achieve at the last race.” Christian Oberstolz (ITA, Olympic-fifth 2006, European Champions 2008, Winners of Overall World Cup 2004/05): “The condition were irregular. In our opinion, the race had to be cancelled so that only the first run would count. We are very angry.” Andreas Linger (AUT, Olympic Champions 2006, World Champions 2003): “It was luck for us – to be true, without the snow we hadn’t managed the podium. Our first run was not good, we had chosen the wrong material for this conditions.”“
