Following in the footsteps of World champions Hüfner and Eggert - new luge track opens in Schierke

Schierke (FIL) On Friday, November 5, 2021, the revitalised luge track at Barenberg was reopened in the Harz resort of Schierke. The premiere ride on the luge was made by Olympic champion Tatjana Hüfner (GER) after a break of two and a half years. The luge stars Toni Eggert, Tatjana Hüfner and Susi Erdmann were born in the Harz region.
Olympic champion Tatjana Hüfner was enthusiastic: "The track is a real enrichment for the three clubs in the Harz. The sled run with seven curves, which can be used on rollers in the summer and on steels in the winter, is a real bonus, especially for young athletes. Together, they've done a really good job of getting something off the ground."

According to the luge club, the track cost 900,000 euros. The state, the city and donations made the revitalisation of the track in Schierke possible.
