Lake Placid (FIL) As if five space shuttle missions, numerous space walks and more than 2000 flight hours in a variety of aircraft wasn’t enough, former USA Luge athlete and NASA astronaut Scott Parazynski has joined 23 other people in an attempt to climb Mount Everest. This was published by the USA Luge Association now.

As a mountaineer, Parazynski’s summits include Cerro Aconcagua (at 22,841 feet above sea level), the tallest mountain in the world outside of Asia and 53 of Colorado’s peaks over 14,000 feet in altitude.
Scott Parazynski is not the only luge athlete with the passion of climbing. Italy’s Olympic Champion Kurt Brugger, who won gold in doubles in 1994 together with Willi Huber, realized his dream in the summer of 2003 and climbed the Nanga Parbat with an altitude of 8,125 meters.
