Fourth World Cup victory for Dominik Fischnaller

Herren Sieger Lillehammer

Lillehammer (RWH) On 17 November 2013, Dominik Fischnaller celebrated his first victory of the season in the Viessmann World Cup in Lillehammer. Now, some four years later, Italy’s World Championship bronze medallist has just claimed his fourth World Cup victory on the same track.

Fischnaller secured victory in the Viessmann World Cup in Lillehammer, Norway, ahead of Russian slider Roman Repilov, who was a lowly ninth after the first run. Austria’s World Champion Wolfgang Kindl finished third. 24-year-old Fischnaller, who received treatment for a back problem from the German team doctor yesterday, last stood on the top step of the podium at the Olympic test in PyeongChang. Fourth place went to Johannes Ludwig from Germany.

In the battle for the last place in Austria’s Olympic squad, David Gleirscher finished  sixth to give himself the best chance of making the grade. The red, white and red Olympic squad already comprises Kindl and Reinhard Egger, who finished 18th in Lillehammer.

Felix Loch, who finished fifth in Lillehammer, retains his lead in the overall World Cup standings with 726 points. Second is held by Wolfgang Kindl (638) and third by Russia’s Semen Pavlichenko (547), who had to settle for 15th after a botched first run.

Quotes

Dominik Fischnaller (ITA / World Championship bronze medallist 2017, World Championship Sprint bronze medallist 2017):

“Lillehammer feels like my home track because we train here so much. In my three races on this track I’ve won twice and come third once. I have to thank the German team doctor who did an amazing job sorting out my back problems.”

Wolfgang Kindl (AUT / World Champion 2017, Sprint World Champion 2017):

“I’m always happy with a podium finish. The competition was really strong. After a lean spell, Dominik Fischnaller is back at the sharp end. After training, I thought I might finish even further up but the other guys don’t make things easy. Mind you, that’s what makes it so exciting.”
