Fritz Nachmannn celebrates 90th birthday

Kreuth (RWH) In the best of health Germany’s Fritz Nachmann, a trailblazer of luge, celebrated his 90th birthday on 16th August in his hometown of Kreuth am Tegernsee. Nachmann (Photo by Klaus Angermann) won the World Championships in doubles two times, 1963 he captured the gold medal in men’s single and secured bronze at the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble (FRA) together with Wolfgang Winkler. In 1955 at the first ever World Championships of the International Luge Federation in Oslo (NOR), he won bronze in doubles together with Josef Strillinger.

Later, from 1968 to 1980, he worked for the German federation as a Director of Sport. He was decisively involved in all the achievements of Josef Fendt, the current FIl president, Josef Nagenrauft, Elisabeth Demleitner and the doubles of Hans Brandner-Balthasar Schwarm und Toni Winkler-Toni Wembacher.

On behalf of the FIL, President Fendt, who with the support of Nachmann collected two gold medals at the FIL World Championships and silver at the 1976 Olympic Games at Innsbruck, complimented with a letter of congratulation
