Altenberg (pps) The luge and bobsleigh track in Altenberg will receive more subsidies for reconstruction works. On the occasion of a visit of Saxony’s Minister of the Interior and Sports, Markus Ulbig, sports-oriented subsidies of a total of 420,000 Euros, allocated by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Free State of Saxony, were submitted to the District Administrator of the County Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains, Michael Geisler. The subsidies will be used to renovate and further develop the artificially refrigerated track in order to continue offering excellent training and competition conditions in the future. Apart from the modernization of the refrigeration facility, a building at the start area will be redeveloped. During a tour around the track, the visitors were informed on the developments during the past years, future investments and current operating expenses. Highlights of the upcoming winter on the artificially refrigerated track in Altenberg will be the Viessmann Luge World Cup (December 1-2, 2012) as well as the Viessmann Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup Series on the first weekend in January 2013.
