Innsbruck Igls (RWH) Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and the doubles team of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken (all GER) have gone down in the history of luge as the first ever winners of the International Luge Federation's Sprint World Cup. The FIL Sprint World Cup is decided in just one run. Athletes use the traditional flying start and the clock starts at the 100-metre mark after the start block. Only the first 15 in the World Cup ranking are entitled to compete. After Igls, Calgary (CAN) and Altenberg (GER) will also host the FIL Sprint World Cup. At the first showing of the discipline on the Innsbruck-Igls Olympic track, Olympic Champion Natalie Geisenberger came in first in the women's singles, followed by teammates Tatjana Hüfner and Anke Wischnewski, Felix Loch won the men's singles ahead of the cousins Dominik and Kevin Fischnaller of Italy. Eggert-Benecken were first in the doubles, followed by local heroes Peter Penz and Georg Fischler and Olympic Champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt (GER). The overall Viessmann World Cup rankings are headed by Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken, who all have the highest possible score of 200 points after two races in their individual disciplines.
