German Luge Championships and World Cup Nomination

Berchtesgaden (FIL) The Olympic champions Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt became German Luge Champions on their home track in Königssee, Bavaria, on Saturday, November 21. The German Championships were the last of five qualifying races of the German luge athletes for the World Cup team. 

Following the national title bouts, head coach Norbert Loch nominated his team for the new World Cup season, which will start on November 27th with the Nations Cup as the qualifying race for the first EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup.

Overall World Cup winner Julia Taubitz and the double World Champions Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken as well as the Olympic Champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt were pre-nominated for the World Cup team. In the doubles' event, the young Thuringians Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz secured their third World Cup starting place. Robin Geueke and David Gamm from Winterberg are not in the World Cup for the time being.

Olympic champion Natalie Geisenberger and Olympic silver medalist Datjana Eitberger presented themselves in the qualifying races in a sovereign manner. Both ladies were able to return impressively after their baby break. Cheyenne Rosenthal, who beat Anna Berreiter, will start as the fourth lady in the World Cup.
The men's team is led by Olympic champion Felix Loch and team world champion Johannes Ludwig. The World Cup team will then be complemented by Max Langenhan, Sebastian Bley and Moritz Bollmann.  

The start of the EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup will already take place on November 28 and 29 in Innsbruck-Igls (AUT). The season's highlight will be the 50th FIL Luge World Championships from January 29 to 31, 2021, in Berchtesgaden-Königssee. Due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, the jubilee World Championships had to be moved from Whistler, Canada, to Germany.
