German Team Achieves Golden Finish In Winterberg
EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup
Winterberg (FIL/January 11, 2026) The Austrian anthem rang out twice and the German anthem twice in two disciplines at the EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup in Winterberg. It was a tie in the singles and doubles competitions. The perfect conditions for an exciting team relay presented by BMW. The German team came out on top. Julia Taubitz, Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt, Felix Loch, and Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal raced through the ice channel in 3:12.106 minutes. “This result is important because in previous relays we didn't perform as well as we would have liked,” said Taubitz. National coach Patric Leitner added: “This result, with such a comfortable lead, is really good for the Olympics.”
Austria, with Hannah Prock, Thomas Steu/Wolfgang Kindl, Jonas Müller, and Selina Egle/Lara Kipp, finished 0.623 seconds behind. “I'm not so happy with my performance,” said Prock self-critically, “but I am happy with second place for the team.” Italy (Verena Hofer, Ivan Nagler/Fabian Malleier, Dominik Fischnaller, Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer) followed in third place, 0.728 seconds behind. “I'm happy with both my performance and the team's performance,” said Fischnaller. “It feels good to be back on the podium. I had already forgotten what it felt like this winter.”
The US team followed in fourth place with Summer Britcher, Marcus Mueller/Ansel Haugsjaa, Jonathan Gustafson and Chevonne Forgan/Sophia Kirkby (1.183 seconds behind), ahead of Latvia (Eina Bota, Eduards Sevics-Mikelsevics/Lukass Krasts, Kristers Aparjods, Marta Robezniece/Kitija Bogdanova; 1.544) and Poland (Klaudia Domaradzka, Wojciech Chmielewski/Michal Gancarczyk, Mateusz Sochowicz, Nikola Domowicz/Dominika Piwkowska; 3.524).
