Tatjana Huefner, Felix Loch and Wendl/Arlt at the head

Altenberg (pps) Olympic champions Tatjana Huefner and Felix Loch as well as the World Cup overall winners in the doubles’, Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt, are heading Germany’s luge squad for the upcoming season. This is what the German Federation announced in a press release after the fourth qualifying race in Altenberg.

At the season’s opener in Igls Huefner will be “accompanied” by three-time World runner-up Natalie Geisenberger, the 2007 World silver medallist Anke Wischnewski as well as Corinna Martini, 2010 European runner-up. Apart from Loch the German federation also nominated two-time World champion David Moeller, the current World bronze medallist Andi Langenhan as well as Johannes Ludwig in the men’s singles. Ludwig won three of the altogether four qualifying races.

In the doubles‘ Germany’s colours will be represented by Wendl-Arlt, Toni Eggert-Sascha Benecken and Ronny Pietrasik-Christian Weise.

The former junior World champion Carina Schwab, after all sixth at the 2011 Worlds, failed to qualify for the German luge squad. In the men’s singles Jan Eichhorn, 2007 World bronze medallist and seventh at the 2011 Worlds, suffered the same fate. After having missed out on their qualification the 2009 and 2010 junior World champions Nico Walther-Nico Gruenneker immediately ended their luge career.
