Martini, Fischer and Florschuetz/Wustlich win Nations Cup in Oberhof
Oberhof (pps). Andre Florschuetz/Torsten Wustlich (GER) made the first move to comeback after Florschuetz had to undergo surgery on November 21st 2008 because of slipped disc. At their home track in Oberhof, the three-time World champions and 2006 Olympic silver medallists in double, won the Nations Cup with the new track record of 43,120 seconds and are qualified for the Viessmann World Cup on Saturday (Jan 17th, starting time doubles 9.00 am). Toni Eggert/Marcel Oster (GER, 43,256 seconds) finished second, followed by Russia’s Michail Kuzmich/Stanislav Mikheev (43,513).
The women’s Nations Cup won Corinna Martini (GER) in 43,589 seconds, followed by Poland’s Ewelina Staszulonek (43,606) and Steffi Sieger from Germany (43,612), who as additional starter is will not take part in the World Cup, because four women from the German team are already qualified.
At the men’s race, Germany’s additional starter Peter Fischer (45,456) finished first but is also not qualified for the Viessmann World Cup, because there are already five German starters. Gregory Carigiet from Switzerland (45,476 seconds) finished second, followed by Austria’s Martin Abentung (45,540).
