Francfurt/Main (pps) Germany's luge team for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada (February 12-28) is almost complete, nine of the ten starting places have already been confirmed. On December 17, 2009 the German Olympic Sports Federation, DOSB (Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund) already nominated three women, two men and two doubles' teams for the Olympic luge events.
At the "Whistler Sliding Center" the German national colours will be represented by two-time World champion and Olympic bronze medallist Tatjana Huefner, two-time World runner-up and European champion Natalie Geisenberger as well as Anke Wischnewski, 2007 World silver medallist. The two-time World champions Felix Loch and David Moeller will start in the Olympic men's singles events. Additionally, the doubles' teams with Patric Leitner-Alexander Resch, 2002 Olympic and already four-times World champions, as well as André Florschuetz-Torsten Wustlich, 2006 Olympic silver medallists and three-time World champions, have been nominated.
However, Germany's third starting place in the men's singles is still vacant. No less than three lugers - Andi Langenhan, Jan Eichhorn and Johannes Ludwig - are fighting for the ticket to the Olympic Games. At "halftime" of the Viessmann Luge World Cup all three lugers have not yet met the qualifying criteria for their nomination to the German Olympic team, that is a top six result at two World Cup events. So far, the three athletes have only secured one top six result each.
