Germany's victory at the relay's premiere in a new form

Team Deutschland Germany Whistler 2023

Whistler (FIL/16 Dec 2023) Julia Taubitz, the winner of the women's race, spoke of a "historic team relay" which celebrated its premiere in Whistler. For the first time, the EBERSPAECHER Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW included a women's doubles team. After the competition, it is fair to say that the German team achieved a historic victory. Taubitz, the men's double Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt, Max Langenhan and the women's double Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal needed 2:48.665 minutes for their four runs. With a total of 76 relays since the 2010/2011 season, the German team has won 47 of them.

Team Austria with Madeleine Egle, Tomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl, Jonas Müller as well as Selina Egle and Lara Kipp were 0.550 seconds slower. Third place went to Team USA with Emily Sweeney, Zachary Di Gregorio and Sean Hollander, Tucker West, Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby (0.646 seconds behind).

Team-Staffel Wistler 2023

The Latvian team of Elina Vitola, Martins Bots and Roberts Plume, Kristers Apajods, Viktorija Ziedina and Selina Zvilna was on course for third place until the finish curve. However, the women's doubles team made a serious driving mistake that left them on the sidelines for a short time. Instead of finishing on the podium, they finished fifth (1.372) behind Italy (0.674) with Verena Hofer, Ivan Nagler and Fabian Malleier, Dominik Fischnaller as well as Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer.

"Unfortunately, we had a small mistake in the relay today, thanks to the women's doubles and the rest of the team, they definitely pulled us out of it. I think we showed a good team performance, the Germans were too strong today, you must acknowledge that without envy", Wolfgang Kindl summarized the result of the first EBERSPAECHER Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW in the season 2023/2024.
