Golden end for Germany

Altenberg (pps) It was a golden end for the German hosts: The team with Tatjana Huefner, Felix Loch and the doubles of Toni Eggert-Sascha Benecken claimed the gold medal in the Team Relay Event at the 43rd Luge World Championships of the International Luge Federation (FIL), in Altenberg, Germany. Two years prior to the debut of the attractive discipline at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, the black-red-golden quartet defeated the team of Russia with Tatiana Ivanova, Albert Demchenko and Vladislav Yushakov-Vladimir Makhnutin to second place. Thus, the hosts of the 2014 Olympic Games claimed their third silver medal in the Eastern Ore Mountains. The bronze medal went to the Canadian team with Alex Gough, Sam Edney and Tristan Walker-Justin Snith.

With 6,000 luge fans on Sunday, a total of 15,000 spectators visted the World Championship races. Most prominent guests at the Worlds were Dr. Thomas Bach, Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and President of the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB), and André Lange, four-time Olympic bobsled Champion. Apart from the exciting luge races, the spectators were able to enjoy an extensive social program with music, sports as well as detailed information provided by the Altenberg TV program.
