Lillehammer (RWH) Germany’s Jessica Tiebel and Roma Repilov from Russia are the new Junior World Champions in the luge. The two Junior World Cup leaders won the gold medals at the 30th World Championships organised by the International Luge Federation (FIL) in Lillehammer, Norway. 16-year-old Jessica Tiebel finished the race with a lead of just six thousands of a second on Russia’s Viktoria Demchenko, the daughter of Albert Demchenko, who collected three Olympic silver medals during his career. Now Demchenko coaches the Russian federation. Third place in the junior race went to Sandra Robatscher of Italy. In the men’s race, Roman Repilov relegated Tucker West of the USA to second place. Tucker West won the Viessmann Luge World Cup last December in Lake Placid, USA. The bronze medal went to Austria’s Nico Gleirscher, the son of Gerhard Gleirscher, who secured the bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships in Igls, Austria. Nico’s brother David also finished third at the Junior World Championships two years ago.
