Successful première of the Viessmann Luge World Cup Team Relay Event
Winterberg (pps) Having written a new chapter in the history of luge as the first winners of the Team Relay Event within the Viessmann Luge World Cup, Olympic champion Tatjana Huefner of the successful German team was asked in Innsbruck-Igls how it felt to have contributed to writing history. The two-time World champion answered with a smile and – in a typical manner – just one word: “Good!”
Tatjana Huefner has always been an athlete of few words, the outstanding luger of the past years prefers to let actions speak – her numerous victories in the past four years are ample evidence. However, her one-word-summary well reflects the overall impression of the World Cup première of the team relay event of the International Luge Federation, FIL. TV ratings were “good” as well – a total of 1.77 million TV spectators followed the decision in the first team relay event within the Viessmann Luge World Cup series on the German public TV station ZDF.
TV viewers saw an exciting competition with team Germany as the logical winner. Already last year team Canada - the relay event was not yet part of the World Cup series - finished runner-up in the overall ranking and in Innsbruck-Igls they once again lived up to their reputation as relay specialists, taking second place. The quartet of Italy finished third. Remarkably, however, is the eighth place of the Swiss team – it was their first ever start in a relay event.
