Whistler (pps) World Championship fourth-placed Alex Gough, Sam Edney, who already celebrated a fifth place this season at the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Calgary, and the two Moffat brothers Chris and Mike claimed the national Canadian titles on the future Olympic track in Whistler. The national championships were carried out with four runs each in the women's and men's singles as a preparation for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver (February 12-28).
Defending her national title successfully, 22-year old Alex Gough however missed to improve the track record of World runner-up Natalie Geisenberger of Germany (48.992 seconds) by a hair's breadth (49.008 sec.). Regan Lauscher and Meaghan Simister clocked second and third places. Meanwhile, Sam Edney claimed the title in the men's single ahead of Jeff Christie and Ian Cockerline. Chris Moffat-Mike Moffat earned the top spot on the podium in the double-seater. They were joined on the podium by Justin-Snith-Tristan Walker, who took the bronze medal at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Nagano, Japan.
