Whistler (pps) Alex Gough, Sam Edney and the doubles team of Tristan Walker-Justin Snith will head into the season as the new national Canadian Champions. The upcoming season will begin with the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Lillehammer, Norway on November 16 and will culminate in the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, in February 2014. 2013 World Championship fifth-placed Sam Edney won his third national title at the Whistler Sliding Center. The 28 -year-old earned his title clocking a time of 1:37.676 minutes ahead of the two youngsters John Fennell (1:38.325) and Mitchel Malyk (1:38.421). World Championship bronze medalist Alex Gough (26) took the podium’s top spot clocking 1:14.118 minutes. She now has seven National Championship titles to her name - at the same time, it was her third title in a row. 21-year-old Kim McRae (1:14.412) and Arianne Jones (23/1:14.586 minutes), took second and third place, respectively. The doubles team of Tristan Walker and Justin Snith once again demonstrated that they are the most promising doubles so far of the Canadian luge program. The 22-year-old 2010 Olympians and 2013 World Championship fourth-placed posted a time of 1:13.743 minutes, earning their third national title. Walter Corey was pleased with the success of the young lugers. “It was a great day by our veterans and I was really happy to see the performance of our youngsters. Today wrapped up a very intense period of training for us. We are excited with where we are at and anxious to get the year underway", said the high-performance director of the Canadian Luge Association.
