Bludenz (RWH) Plans to construct an ice track in Bludenz (AUT) have been given the green light. The project, which was originally planned to start in 2014, was finally given the go-ahead at a meeting of the Vorarlberg state government. The building permit, which was signed by Bludenz mayor Mandi Katzenmayer, is legally binding. The story was reported by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten” newspaper, and the press office of the city of Bludenz.

The cost of the approximately 725-metre track totals €6.6 million, of which the Austrian state and Vorarlberg will each contribute €2.2 million, the city of Bludenz €1.1 million, while a further €1.1 million will come from the infrastructure fund and tourism promotion. Vorarlberg Governor Markus Wallner told the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten” that this was an “important signal for the region and the city of Bludenz.”

The facility will be used primarily for young athletes in luge, skeleton and bobsleigh. The operating company “Eiskanal Bludenz GmbH” has already been established. The largest shareholder is the Austrian Luge Federation (ÖRV) under new president Markus Prock (54). The track is due to open in November 2019.
