Olang/Valdaora (ck) - With another win, the 28th in their career, Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara (ITA) manifested their unique role in the doubleseater field. “It looks easy when we win, but we know how much work is behind it”, said Patrick Pigneter. “In the first run we attacked”, explained Florian Clara. “In the last races we always had the Russians ahead of us in the first run, so we decided to attack from the beginning and really had an excellent first run. Then, with the margin we had, we could afford a safety run in the second.” In the struggle for the runner up position, which has been an internal Russian duel the whole season, Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev scored the 3:2 over Aleksandr Egorov/Petr Popov today after finishing second for the third consecutive time. “It was not easy today”, said Ivan Lazarev, “yesterday it was warm, today it was cold, this needed a totally different way of preparation of the runners.” Also, Porshnev/Lazarev did not have a good first run: “In the first right turn we made a mistake, then in the final curve we touched the wooden wall”, explained Lazarev. However, in both runs they stayed ahead of their teammates Egorov/Popov, who finished third. In the women’s race the first run was held today, Sunday, and the ranking looks very unfamiliar. Ekatharina Lavrentjeva (RUS) is on the third position only. But the margin between her and Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) is almost nothing and Greta Pinggera (ITA) in the leading position is not too far ahead, either. In the men’s qualification Anton Blasbichler and Florian Breitenberger succeeded within the Italian team and will join Patrick Pigneter in the world cup. Bad luck had Alex Gruber (ITA), who is seeded for the world cup, but crashed in the qualification and suffered an injury at his shoulder. With him missing, Italy will only have three participants in the world cup tomorrow. The Austrian team will consist of the seeded Thomas Kammerlander and Michael Scheikl as well as Bernd Neurauter and Thomas Schopf who qualified for the world cup. In the women’s Nations Cup Italy took the first two places with Sara Bachmann ahead of Melanie Schwarz. Russia’s Lubov Satrikova finished third. Stanislav Kovshik/Ilya Tarasov (RUS) won the doubles’ Nations Cup.
