Lausanne (RWH) The 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne (9 – 22 January 2020) will feature three days of luge events. The medals in the women’s singles and men’s doubles will be awarded on 17 January on the traditional natural ice track in St. Moritz, which is the venue for all luge, bobsleigh and skeleton races. The men’s singles and women’s doubles contests are scheduled for the following day (18 January 2020). The team relay races start on 20 January 2020 to find out who will be crowned the third Youth Olympic Champion in this discipline, following on from the last two events in Innsbruck, Austria (2012), and Lillehammer, Norway (2016).

Four years ago in Lillehammer the gold medals went to Canada’s Brooke Apshkrum, Latvia’s Kristers Aparjods, the Italian duo of Felix Schwarz/Lukas Gufler, and the German relay team featuring Jessica Tiebel, Paul-Lukas Heider and the doubles pairing of Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz. In 2012, the Austrian Miriam Kastlunger, Germany’s Christian Paffe, the Italian doubles pairing of Florian Gruber/Simon Kainzwaldner, and the US team comprising Summer Britcher, Tucker West and the doubles team of Ty Andersen/Pat Edmunds became the first ever YOG luge winners in the history of the International Luge Federation (FIL).
