Mainz (pps) Georg Hackl, the most successful luge athlete of all times, will continue to be involved in the sport of luge even after the end of his career as an athlete. In the upcoming winter, the three-time Olympic Champion and three-time World Champion will work for the German public-rights television network ZDF, where he will act as expert for the Viessmann World Cups and Suzuki Challenge Cups. As tried and tested at last year’s Viessmann World Cup in Altenberg, Hackl is supposed to impart his expert knowledge to the spectators in a dialogue with ZDF presenter Sven Voss.
Georg Hackl (39), the only winter sports athlete in history who has won five medals (three gold medals, two silver medals) at five consecutive Olympic Winter Games, finished his career after the Olympic Winter Games in Turin, where he finished seventh. The German is currently studying to acquire his coaching license at the coaches’ acedemy in Cologne, Germany. Besides his work for ZDF, Hackl will coach the so-called „B” team of the German federation (BSD).
