Hannah Prock, Arturs Darznieks and Chmielewski / Kowalewski the fastest at Nations Cup in Oberhof
Oberhof (FIL) Hannah Prock (AUT), Arturs Daznieks (LAT) and Wojciech Chmielewski / Jacub Kowalewski (POL) took the victories in the FIL Nations Cup on Friday, December 11, 2020 in Oberhof.
The 20-year-old Tyrolean Hannah Prock was the fastest of 21 women in the Nations Cup in 41.803 seconds. Latvia's Ulla Zirne raced to second place (+0.173) ahead of Switzerland's Natalie Maag (+0.230). Hannah Prock said: "I am happy about the victory in the Nations Cup here in Oberhof. The track is definitely one of my favorite ones in the world. I like sliding here very much."
In the men's race there was a Latvian triple success. 27-year-old soldier Arturs Darznieks from Sigulda won in 41.714 seconds ahead of 2020 Youth Olympic Games champion Gints Berzins (+0.052) and Riks Kristens Rozitis (+0.145).
In doubles, Poland's Wojciech Chmielewski and Jacub Kowalewski won in 41.714 seconds. Second place in the Nations Cup went to the young local heroes Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz (+0.030) ahead of the young Latvian duo Martins Bots and Roberts Plume (+0.066).
Prock, Darznieks and Chmielewski / Kowalewski are now the holders of the new track record, after the reconstruction of the luge track in Oberhof.
Through the Nations Cup, which is a race in one heat, athletes qualify for the EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup on Saturday and Sunday. The fastest twelve female and double athletes as well as the fastest 15 men of the last three World Cup races will start in the so-called seeding group. For them, there will be the seeded training on Friday, December 11 from 14:30 (CET) as the last run before the World Cup.
