Koenigssee (pps) Tobias Wendl-Tobias Arlt of Germany, defending champions in the Viessmann Luge World Cup, completed a hat-trick at the World Cup stop in Koenigssee. Celebrating their second success this season, the 2008 World silver medalists also achieved their third consecutive victory on their home-track. Wendl-Arlt, who set up a start as well as a track record (clocking 50.498 seconds), thus continued the tradition of Patric Leitner-Alexander Resch who were able to reel off eight consecutive victories in Koenigssee.
With their second place finish and a total of 340 points to their credit, Olympic and World Champions Andreas Linger-Wolfgang Linger of Austria are still heading the overall Viessmann Luge World Cup rankings. However, their lead over Wendl-Arlt (310 points) diminished to just 30 points. Third in the overall rankings are Peter Penz-Georg Fischler of Austria (271 points), who took a fourth place in Koenigsee behind Toni Eggert-Sascha Benecken (GER).
Quotes
Tobias Wendl
(GER / 2008 World silver medalist, defending Champion in the Viessmann Luge World Cup)
“It’s simply great to compete in such an atmosphere. The spectators are a great motivation. We have a clear-cut goal this season – the World Championships. This season, Linger-Linger are showing steady performances; they haven’t made any mistakes yet. We, on the other hand, have already slipped twice.”
Wolfgang Linger
(AUT / 2006 and 2010 Olympic Champion, 2003 and 2011 World Champion)
“We were rather very well-behaved ‘guests’ for the two Tobias‘. But they have surely noticed what we can pull off.”
Toni Eggert (GER / fourth place 2010-2011 overall Viessmann Luge World Cup) “It’s great fun to compete here. It was a very close call after the first run. Our second run then was better. We surely profited from the mistake of Oberstolz-Gruber.”
