Head coach Miroslav Zayonc takes on a new role in the US Luge Association

Lake Placid (RWH): Miroslav Zayonc has left his role as head coach for the US Luge Association for health reasons, but remains part of the organisation after taking on a new role. Bill Traveres will now take over as head coach, as announced by the US Luge Association in Lake Placid.

Miroslav Zayonc (56), who won World Championship gold for Canada in 1983, will now work as chief consultant to CEO Jim Leahy and as an assistant to Sports Programs Director Mark Grimmette. Zayonc was head coach when Erin Hamlin won bronze in 2014 to become the USA’s first female luge athlete to win an Olympic medal. In 2017, Hamlin became Sprint World Champion and runner-up in World Championships for the Olympic discipline. In winter 2015/2016, the US team won a record total of 18 medals in the Viessmann World Cup under the leadership of Zayonc, who suffers from Parkinson’s Disease.
