Historic First Training Session of the Korean Junior Luge Team officially recognized by the KSOC

PyeongChang (FIL/29 Aug 2025) The first training session of the Korean National Junior Luge Team, officially recognized by the Korea Sports & Olympic Committee (KSOC), took place in August 2025 in PyeongChang. With the title “KSOC Future Luge National Junior Team,” the team will receive 24 days of training, and one international training camp fully funded by the KSOC. The remaining necessary training camps will be funded by the Korean Luge Federation (KLF) as before.
This is of enormous importance to KLF and the Korean future national luge athletes. Since the Korean Junior Luge Team was founded in 2020, the team has never had the opportunity to participate in a training camp abroad due to a lack of funds for the junior sector. It is very painful for the federation not to be able to offer the juniors international experience on other tracks, as everyone knows how important diverse international experience is for young athletes.
Now, KLF may have more leeway in its budget for overseas trips. Mr. Lim, the president of the KLF, said, “Starting this season, at least one overseas trip will be offered for the junior team. It is extremely important for KLF to keep juniors in luge by providing them with valuable experience for their performance. In that regard, I couldn't be happier.”
“Not every junior will get this chance. I am working on setting a standard. To maintain the intensity of training, only children who meet the standard will be selected.” The head coach of the Korean junior luge team, Donghyun Kim, said: "The KLF started working with the junior team in 2020. After five years of the KLF looking after its junior team, the team has finally been awarded the title of ‘Korean Junior Luge Team’”.
