Home victory in Winterberg for Degenhardt/Rosenthal – Gatt/Schöpf sail through
Winterberg (FIL/06 Dec 2025) In the end, it's the total that counts. That was the conclusion drawn by Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf at the EBERSPAECHER Luge World Cup in Winterberg. In both runs, the two Austrians only achieved the fifth-best start time. They crossed the finish line with the fastest time in each run. That made a total of 1:25.609 minutes. Their fourth victory. “We made it exciting for the spectators again,” said front man Gatt, “but in the end we managed to pull it off.” Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt did not succeed in doing so in either run. In the second run in particular, they caused a moment of shock in turn 13. “After that flying maneuver, which many ski jumpers would envy us for, we can be really happy with second place,” admitted Arlt. Frontman Wendl speculated: “If we had just skied straight down, we might have been able to beat Gatt/Schöpf. They skied cleanly twice.” And they were 0.108 seconds faster. Third place went to the second Austrian duo, Yannick Müller/Armin Frauscher, who were 0.192 seconds behind.
While two Austrian and one German duo were on the podium in the men's event, it was exactly the opposite in the women's event. For the 14th time, Germany's Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal stood on the top step of the podium ahead of Selina Egle/Lara Kipp (Austria/0.069) and Dajana Eitberger and Magdalena Matschina (Germany/0.134). “My nerves,” said front woman Degenhardt in her initial reaction to the narrow margin. In a brief analysis, she added: “We had a small powerslide in the finish curve in both runs. It's crazy, we couldn't have imagined a better start to the World Cup season than with a victory.” Selina Egle summed up the two runs succinctly: “If you combine the first run at the top and the second at the bottom, it fits together quite well.”
It was a special race for Cheyenne Rosenthal from Winterberg. “Of course, it's cool to show off your performance in front of family and friends,” she said, “after all, they're standing in the rain all day.” But it wasn't just the spectators who got wet, the track did too. That's why Tobias Wendl said, “The track crew did a great job.”
