Manali/India (pps) The first summer camp in the Himalayas, which was initiated and carried out by India’s three-time Olympian Shiva Keshavan together with the national luge federation of India (IALA), was a huge success. Altogether 52 young people, including 17 girls, participated in the five-day training camp held in Minali in the Himalaya Mountains at the beginning of July. 34 participants were younger than 17; the youngest one was barely seven years old.
„I strongly believe that some of the athletes that attended have great potential to become world-class athletes in the future“, said Shiva Keshavan, who competed in the 1998, 1992 and 2006 Olympic Winter Games, and ranked 25th in Turin, this being his personal best result.
In some classes even national championships were held, which were watched by numerous spectators and guests of honor. During the awards ceremonies at Manali Town Centre, the winners received prizes from IALA President Rajaev Mehta.
The Himalayas are a mountain range in Asia, which comprises ten of the world’s 14 highest mountains including Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak (8,848 meters above sea level).
