International Referee License Obtained: Successful FIL Training of Officials in Cortina d’Ampezzo

Cortina d’Ampezzo (FIL/23 Mrz 2025) On Sunday, March 23, a comprehensive referee training course was held at the office of the Organizing Committee for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Conducted by the International Luge Federation (FIL), the training was led by FIL Sports Director Matthias Böhmer and Technical Director Andris Sics. A total of 25 judges from Cortina and the neighboring South Tyrol region were prepared for their roles at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

The training, conducted in both English and German, covered theoretical and practical aspects. In addition to an in-depth introduction to race management and the responsibilities of a Technical Delegate (TD) and a judge, practical exercises were carried out. Special focus was placed on measurement tasks and handling of a doubles sled.
At the end of the course, all participants took the international referee examination. Their newly acquired knowledge will be further refined during the international training week and the subsequent test event in autumn 2025 before they take on their roles at the Olympic Winter Games 2026 in Milan-Cortina.

“The training and subsequent referee examination in Cortina were very successful today. We are pleased to welcome 25 new referees. The FIL offers training courses and examinations for referees of all member federations and organizers of FIL events. Interested federations or organizations can contact the FIL directly for further information,” said Sports Director Matthias Böhmer.
