Cancellation of Sprint Race: „Concept still with some flaws“
„We need to wait and see if we keep the name ‘sprint race’”

Altenberg (pps) „The concept still had some flaws.“ This is the explanation of Sepp Benz, chairman of the Sports Commission of the International Luge Federation, FIL, with regard to the cancellation on short notice of the sprint race at the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Altenberg next weekend. “The responsible broadcaster, in this case the German public TV station ZDF, wanted to present a professional race with perfect timing, with comprehensible charts – well, with the whole works, so that it would be a great success with the TV viewers. But at present, the technique is still a problem,” the Swiss continued.

Now, another SUZUKI Team Relay event will be carried out in Altenberg. However, the sprint race will be tested – without TV transmission. “The test in Altenberg will be the go-ahead”, explained Benz (65), 1980 Olympic bobsleigh two-man champion as brakeman of Erich Schaerer. Benz: “But we need to wait and see if we’ll keep the name ‘sprint race’. It’s not shelved, we’ll continue working on it”.
