Alexander Resch (GER) chosen for the sport of luge
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced the list of Innsbruck 2012 Athlete Role Models (ARMs) for the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games taking place from 13 to 22 January in Innsbruck, Austria.
Alexander Resch (GER) will travel to Innsbruck for the International Luge Federation (FIL) to inspire and support young athletes. As an active athlete, the 32 year-old won Olympic gold with his doubles partner Patric Leitner in 2002, became World Champion four times and European Champion three times, and won the overall ranking in the Viessmann World Cup six times.
In 14 sports, including the ice track disciplines bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge, particularly successful athletes were chosen by their respective international federations to be role models. The Athlete Role Models will be present at the competitions and in the Olympic village accompanying and inspiring the young athletes and answering their questions and giving them tips. The Athlete Role Models play a key role in the Cultural and Education Program for the athletes in which Olympic values, well-being and healthy lifestyles, social responsibility, and the correct handling of digital media will be taught.
