Copenhagen (pps) At the 15th Olympic Congress in Copenhagen, the International Luge Federation (FIL) is represented by President Josef Fendt (GER) and Secretary General Svein Romstad (USA). The heading of the Congress is „The Olympic Movement in Society”. The main focus is on athletes, Olympic Games, the structure of the Olympic movement, Olympism and youth, and the digital revolution.
The IOC Congress was opened by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, from South Korea. In his keynote address he encouraged the sport world to contribute to a global climate solution. It was required to “sprint like an Olympian” to make the world climate summit to be held in Copenhagen from December 7 to 18 a success, Ban explained in his speech.
In his keynote address, IOC Vice-President Thomas Bach (GER) called on the IOC for “unity in diversity”. The President of the German Olympic Sport Federation (DOSB) said that sport should be politically neutral, but not non-political. “Sport must not pretend to have nothing to do with politics, as has sometimes happened in the past”, said the 1976 Olympic champion in fencing.
