Lausanne (pps) Salzburg (Austria), Pyeongchang (South Korea) and Sotchi in Russia are still in the race to host the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. On June 22, 2006 in Lausanne, the Executive Board of the IOC reduced the number of candidates from seven to three. If the Austrian bid is successful, the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competitions will be held in Königssee, Germany. The final decision on the host of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be made at the IOC Session in Guatemala City in July 2007.

The bids of Almaty (Kazakhstan), Borjomi (Georgia), Jaca (Spain) and Sofia (Bulgaria) were rejected. The pre-selection was done on the basis of a technical evaluation by an IOC working group.
