Frankfurt (pps) Dr. Thomas Bach, Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and regular guest of President Josef Fendt at events of the International Luge Federation (FIL), has been elected as first President on the inaugural meeting of the German Olympic Sports Alliance (DOSB) in Frankfurt am Main. In his function as IOC Vice-President,
Dr. Bach will also pay a visit to the 54th Congress of the FIL in Berchtesgaden on June,29-30.
The new umbrella organization of German sports with over 27 millions members in about 90.000 associations takes the place of the German Sports Federation (DSB) and National Olympic Committee (NOC) which were dissolved with the DOSB foundation. The fusion had been decided on by the NOC and DSB in Cologne on December 10th.
The former fencing Olympic Champion (Montreal 1976) Dr. Bach who again moved up into the IOC Executive at the IOC Session in Turin as Vice-President has been a close friend of FIL President Josef Fendt for many years. The 1976 Olympic silver medallist of Innsbruck was a guest at the inaugural meeting and ceremony in the Frankfurt Paulskirche last weekend just like the three-times Olympic Luge Champion Georg Hackl.
