Everything is ready for the 22nd FIL Luge World Championships on Natural Track in Latzfons - Feldthurns (ITA) from February 1st – 3rd 2019. The best lugers from over 20 nations fight for gold, silver and bronze on the track Lahnwiesenbahn.
„We have a very well-rehearsed team where everyone knows exactly what to do. All volunteers are motivated. What particularly pleases me is the enthusiasm in the entire area“, reports OC-Boss Sepp Oberrauch. The World Championships are organized by ASV Latzfons together with the Sports Clubs Verdings and Feldthurns.

Defending champions on the 900-meter-long track are Greta Pinggera (ITA), Alex Gruber (ITA) and in the doubles Rupert Brüggler / Tobias Angerer (AUT). In the team-competition Austria took the title 2017 in Vatra Dornei (ROU). After the training sessions and the opening ceremony on Friday the run for gold, silver and bronze begins on Saturday. In contrast to the World Cup, 3 runs (single women and men) will be held at the World Championship. The final in the double (2 runs) is scheduled on Saturday. After the first scoring runs on Saturday the single women and men will go into the finals on Sunday starting from 9.30am.
That's what former World Champions say:
Anton Blasbichler (ITA), World Champion 2001, 2005
"It´s true, a World Championship has it’s own rules. Everything has to fit on these special days, the mind and the material. It is also a matter of nerves because of the three runs, picking up a medal while passing by is not possible ".
Renate Gietl (ITA), World Champion 2009, 2011
"At the 2009 World Championship in Passeier (ITA) I felt a big pressure. That I was able to take the titel in front of the home-crowd just 0.03 seconds ahead after 3 runs was really very special. In 2011 I wanted to defend my title in Umhausen (AUT). After two runs I was the leader and I was able to fix my second individual title with a new track record".
Gerald Kammerlander (AUT), World Champion 2011
"It was a difficult season for me, I would rather say it was an extremely bad season. I even had to go into the team-qualification. In the end I won on my home-track with only 0.04 seconds ahead, that was extremely exciting. Of course, a World Championship is the highlight for every athlete of Luge on Natural Track".
Ivan Lazarev* (RUS), doubles World Champion 2005, 2007, 2011
"The World Championship is a very special race, it‘s only every two years. A title-race is always something different than a standard World Cup race. My mother keeps the gold medals in a showcase and she is very proud of it".
