Obdach (PMA) Fourth GRM Group Luge World Cup in Natural Track was held at Obdach-Winterleiten in Austria. First event of the weekend was the Doubles race. The big duel was again between Italians Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara and Russian Aleksandr Egorov/Petr Popov. After three of six events both pairs shared a collective lead in World Cup. In Obdach-Winterleiten Pigneter/Clara celebrated their third victory this season and took the exclusive overall lead. Second place went to Egorov/Popov. Austrian Christoph Regensburger and Dominik Holzknecht finished third in front of their team mates and Silver medallists of current World Championships Rupert Brüggler and Tobias Angerer. Fifth place went to Poland to Andrzej Laszczak and Damian Waniczek. Pigneter celebrated his 100th World Cup podium in his career. There was also one competition run at the Ladies event. Current World Champion Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) is leading in front of Ekaterina Lavrentyeva (RUS) and Tina Unterberger (AUT). Nations Cup event was won by Anton Blasbichler (ITA) and Russian Double Pavel Porshnev/Ivan Lazarev. Juniors Doubles World Cup was won by Armin Folie and Elias Gruber from Italy. On Sunday Obdach-Winterleiten will host Men’s World Cup race, Ladies final competition run and the Junior World Cup single races. STATEMENTS: Florian Clara (ITA): „The track is very challenging and has a lot of fast corners. For doubles it is very tricky because every mistake can end in a crash. Our runs were not perfect but we were lucky because our opponents Egorov/Popov had contact with the barrier at the last corner.” Aleksandr Egorov (RUS): „Our mistake in the last corner was annoying. Now we have to look forward again. Next World Cup is in Romania, a track we like” Dominik Holzknecht (AUT): Third place is okay. Our runs were not ideal. Especially in the first run we had some problems”
