Vatra Dornei (PMA) The Romanian city was the host of fifth GRM Luge World Cup on Natural Track. The ski resort, with its 17.000 inhabitants, is located in the Carpathians and the most eastern spot of this year’s Luge World Cup. It is the fourth World Cup race on the track “Bucovina”. In 2017 Vatra Dornei is the host of 21st World Championships on Natural Track of the International Luge Federation (FIL). Saturday’s Doubles Event was won by Italians Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara. It is their fourth season win. The current World Champions won with a big lead over their opponents. Second and third place went to Austria. Christoph Regensburger and Dominik Holzknecht landed their best career result ever and finished second in front of their team-mates Rupert Brüggler and Tobias Angerer. Russian Double Aleksandr Egorov and Petr Popov finished on fourth place. Pigneter/Clara are leading in Overall World Cup. Gap between them and Egorov/Popov are 55 points. Nations Cup was won by Italian Florian Breitenberger. Second place went to Austria and Bernd Neurauter. Christian Schopf (AUT) finished on third place. There was only a Men’s Nations Cup event held in Romania. World Cup races of Ladies and Men are scheduled on Sunday. STATEMENTS: Patrick Pigneter: (ITA) „This season is working well for us.
